CMR NA or NH: why your report shows no rank
Reviewed 4 November 2026 · Prateesh Nair, BISFIOPS Private Limited
A CIBIL report can show no CMR when the business has too little credit history at the bureau, or its borrowing falls outside the range CMR covers. A missing rank is not a bad rank — it means the bureau does not have enough to rank you. Background in the CMR guide.
Why a rank can be missing
- New to credit. The business has never borrowed formally, or only recently.
- Thin history. There are too few accounts or months of data for the model to rank.
- Outside the range. CMR covers MSMEs with total borrowing up to ₹50 crore; businesses outside that range are not given a CMR.
- Data not yet reported. A new facility may not yet appear if the lender has not reported it.
Report labels such as "NA" or "NH" are used for these cases. Confirm the exact meaning on your own report with TransUnion CIBIL, because labels and rules can change.
Is "no rank" bad?
Not in itself. It tells a lender there is little bureau history to go on, so they lean more on other evidence: GST returns, bank statements, financial statements and the promoters' personal credit records. Some lenders have products for new-to-credit businesses; others prefer an existing track record.
What to do if you are new to credit
- Keep GST returns filed on time — lenders read them for turnover and regularity.
- Run business receipts through one current account so statements show real cash flow.
- Keep promoters' personal credit clean; it carries more weight when the business has no rank.
- Start with a facility sized to your turnover and repay it on time — this builds the history CMR needs.
- Look at collateral-free routes such as CGTMSE-backed loans. See MSME government schemes.
If you think the rank should be there
If the business has borrowed for some time and the report still shows no rank, check that every facility is listed under the right entity and PAN. Raise a correction with TransUnion CIBIL if something is missing or misattributed.
Questions we are asked
What does NA mean in a CMR report?
It generally means a CMR is not available, usually because the business has too little credit history at the bureau or its borrowing is outside the range CMR covers. Check your own report's legend with TransUnion CIBIL.
Is it bad if my business has no CMR?
No. A missing rank is not a bad rank. Lenders rely more on GST returns, bank statements, financial statements and the promoters' personal credit instead.
How does a new business get a CMR?
By building credit history: taking a facility sized to its turnover, repaying it on time, and keeping it reported under the correct entity and PAN.
